The Tanners League Handicap took place on Monday 6th May at Meole Brace Bowling Club. A fine sunny bank holiday saw a very good entry of bowlers, the best turnout for some years.
In the main competition quarter finals Adie Rowe (Castlefields) beat Peter Griffiths (Pontesbury) 21 – 10, Keith Wall (Monkmoor) beat Ant Gray (Castlefields) 21 – 14, Emmet McKinley (Oxon) beat Andy Cooke (Hanwood) 21 – 20 and Dan Jones (Castlefields) beat Emily Cunningham (Hanwood) 21 – 14. This led to two quality semi-finals with Adie winning against Keith 19 and Dan winning against Emmet 16. A long and very close final took place in which Dan triumphed 21 – 19 against Adie.
The consolation competition took place on the other green. The semi-finals saw Megis Phillips (Ifton) beat Jason Rowson (Pontesbury) 21 – 18 and Cerys Marshall (Prince of Wales Hotel) beat Simon Damm (Unison) 21 – 5. Another good final saw Megis win 21 – 16 against Cerys.
The competition secretary thanked all for attending and for their support. Also thanks were extended to Mike Caddick, Tanners League President, and Charlotte Butler for their help in running the competition. Thanks were also extended to Meole Brace Bowling Club for two excellent bowling greens, to Gary Middleton and John Cooper, and hospitality from Gill and Alice.
Rich Jones
