The Tanners League Mixed Doubles for the Frank and Mabel Edwards Trophy took place on Sunday 25th August 2024 at Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club. Very windy conditions did not deter the 16 mixed pairs who entered.
In the quarter finals Alex Evans (Crescent) and Jane Archer (Bayston Hill) won 21 – 13 against Ian Marshall and Clair Barker (Prince Hotel), Rhys Marshall (Castlefields) and Cerys Marshall (Prince Hotel) won 21 – 17 against Ellis Griffiths and Holly Hotchkiss (Prince Hotel), Steve Duckett (Castlefields) and Jenna Parsons (Prince Hotel) won 21 – 4 against Mal and Wendy Parry (Battlefield) and Kevin and Angie Griffiths (Unison) won 21 – 18 against Dan Wornell and Nicky Hotchkiss (Prince Hotel).
Two excellent semi-finals saw Rhys and Cerys win 21 – 16 against Alex and Jane and Kevin and Angie win 21 – 19 against Steve and Jenna.
Rhys and Cerys then played exceptionally well on a three quarter mark round peg to take an early big lead against Kevin and Angie and win 21 – 2, retaining the trophy for the second year.
Thanks were extended by the Competition Secretary to all entrants, League President Mr Mick Caddick, Old Shrewsbury Bowling Club, Charlotte Butler and to Dan Morris from DJM Plumbing and Heating Services for sponsoring the competition.
