The Tanners League Merit was played on Sunday 30th July 2023 on two very good greens at Greenfields Bowling Club. There were 34 entries.
Following last year’s finalists both going out in the earlier rounds the competition reached the quarter finals. Peter Griffiths (Pontesbury) won 21 – 18 v Bryan Bates (Albert Road Exiles), Rob Evans (Ifton) won 21 – 20 v Nigel Ferrington (Prince Hotel), Mark Harris (Crescent) won 21 – 14 v Antony Gray (Castlefields) and Andy Cooke (Hadnall) won 21 – 18 v Alex Evans (Battlefield). The semi-finals saw Peter Griffiths win 21 – 12 v Rob Evans and Andy Cooke won 21 – 18 v Mark Harris. A very good final ended with Peter Griffiths winning 21 – 15 against Andy Cooke. Peter Griffiths received the Dick Meyrick Challenge Bowl and runner up Andy Cooke won the Dave Card Memorial Bowl.
