As explained at the executive committee meeting at the start o the season, the divisions would be smaller this year with three divisions so we planned to enter ALL teams in the competitions and run them at the end of the season to prolong the fixtures.
The decision was made to put the first 16 teams in the pecking order at the time of the draw in to the Tanners Cup 6 home 6 away and the remaining 16 teams in to the Champagne Cup 5 home 5 away .
Given that last year most of the top placed teams in Division 2 this year would have still been 12 a side if we’d stuck to 2 Divisions, we thought it wasn’t asking too much of those teams to field 6 home 6 away.
Obviously the Rules for Cup eligibility this year are unreasonable given the lack of fixtures, so the eligibility for ALL CUPS the this year ONLY will reduce to 4 games for the CLUB in either the Shropshire or Shrewsbury League to be eligible to play on the Semi finals and Final. I don’t think this is an unreasonable request.
We decided to put Divisions One and Two into the Fullwood Cup 5 home 5 away and Division Three & Four into the Scadding Cup 4 home 4 away to even out the length of the cups.
That being said, I’ll admit, we didn’t take into account that the Division one teams can play two premier league registered players all season as the 10-game rule does not apply in the Shrewsbury League. Obviously, the division two teams cannot use premier league players at all and will need to find two more players for the 5 home 5 away.
To compensate for this if a Division Two team gets drawn again a Division One team that is playing a premier league registered player. The premier league registered player will be handicapped with a -5 start on the card. Again, obviously, if division One teams get drawn against each other the handicap will not apply as both teams have the opportunity to play premier league registered players.
