The Tanner and Champagne Cup Finals will be held at Old Shrewsbury on Saturday 1st October with a 7 pm start
The Tanner Cup Final is between Prince Hotel and Crescent and will be played on the No. 1 green. In the semi finals the Prince beat Castlefields by 13 chalks in a closely fought tie. Hayden Lewis 21-12 and Tony Hotchkiss 21-13 helped give them a lead of 9 on the front with Anthony Gray replying with 21-12 for the ‘fields. The middle saw games shared with two noteable comebacks by the two Prince losers to keep the aggregate at 9 in their favour. The back two was shared again with the Prince increasing the overall margin to 13.
Meanwhile at Hadnall, Crescent won by 25 chalks against Battlefield. Crescent had strong cards all the way through with Stuart Long best with 21-7 as they took a 24 chalk lead off the front. Mal Parry had the Lions best result with 21-12 but it was not enough as Crescent recorded a couple of 21-10 cards from Mark Jenks and Andy Pullen to confirm the win.
The Champagne Cup is between Meole Brace and Unison on the No. 2 green. Meole beat Bicton by 30 at Battlefield. They had a clean sweep on the front to lead by 24 and with games shared in the middle they edged further in front by two. Best cards of the night were 21-13 from Lucy Lyttle for Meole and Becky Brown 21-15 for Bicton.
Unison won a very close match at the Prince Hotel against Burway, wining by four chalks. They had three winners at the start but Richard Lane’s 21-9 kept the margin down to 5. Barry Rogers then won 21-11 for the South Shropshire side whilst Simon Reynolds 21-13 replied for Unison. Mark Bull won 21-16 at the end for Burway but just before he finished his game veteran Les Jones secured the win for Unison with 21-14.
