Prince Hotel were the 2023 winners of the Team Doubles competition, overcoming a combined Abbey/Monkmoor side by nine chalks in a very close match played on the Old Shrewsbury No. 2 green. Abbey/Monkmoor raced into a 23 chalk lead after two games with Nat Lee and Simon Damm winning 21-9 and the Neils, Ashton and Jones, 21-12. Nicki Hotchkiss and Rhys Marshall stopped the rot for the Prince with a hard earned 21-17 allowing the Prince back three to complete the comeback with three wins out of three, Ian Payne and Tom Stanhope’s 21-12 card pulling the match level to leave Rich Carr and Adrian Jennings to seal the win 21-12.
On the No. 1 Green Castlefields B had a comfortable 46 chalk win over Greenfields B in the Consolation. Anthony Gray and Steve Flynn got Castlefields off to a flyer and it was plain sailing from there with Greenfields pair, Ian Jackson and Jo Wellard, 21-19 preventing a whitewash.
