Old Shrewsbury had seven winners, including Chris Jones Junior with 21-10, but it was not enough to stave off a seventeenth defeat of the season as the Arms’ Tony Cowdale 21-5 and Tony Pryce 21-9 eased the hosts to a ten chalk win.

Crescent 10 (238) Pontesbury A 4 (200)

Good win for the Crescent as they battle to get away from the relegation area. Neil and Mark Harris won 21-5 and 21-9 respectively and Anthony Price was best for Pontesbury with 21-12.

Meole Brace A (233) 11 Hanwood 3 (208)

Meole eased any relegation fears with this solid win, Derek Jones coppering up for them 21-12. Best of the three away winners was Phil Price 21-10.

George 11 (246) Castlefields 3 (189)

The George also picked up eleven valuable points where there were some close games, including the George winning three games 21-19 in the middle. Gary Wilkie won 21-8 for the George and Tony Wall’s 21-17 was best for the ‘fields.

Battlefield 7 (221) Elephant & Castle 7 (205)

A rare defeat for the league leaders as Andy Jones and Keith Owens cards of 21-7 helped Battlefield to a 16 chalk win. The Castle had seven winners, Tony Sherratt’s 21-12 their best.

Division Two

Ifton 13 (244) Wem BC 1 (141)

Ifton took a massive step towards confirming their promotion with this win where Anne Speake 21-13 was the only Wem success on the evening. Ifton had six single figure winners, Jeff Jones taking their sweep with 21-3.

Bayston Hill A 9 (214) Prince Hotel B 5 (208)

Close game on top of the Hill as the hosts won by just 6 chalks, John Davies 21-10 was their top score and Craig Breeze 21-8 for the Prince.

Unison 10 (221) Bicton A 4 (199)

Good win for Unison who sit in a relegation place but have a game in hand. Simon Reynolds 21-9 for the Shirehall side was matched by Bicton’s Paul Ashworth and Andy Gale.

Albert Road BC 4 (190) Whittington 10 (223)

These two sides are going in opposite directions as Whittington moved a step nearer to the First Division after this away win. Paul Binnersley’s 21-7 for the Roaders and Andy Cawthray 21-3 for the visitors.

Burway 6 (212) Bishops Castle 8 (214)

Another close game in this South Shropshire clash with the Castle winning by two chalks. Jack Bufton won 21-4 for Burway and Wayne Pugh 21-12 for the travellers.

Meole Brace V 10 (225) Hadnall 4 (194)

Four valuable points for relegation threatened Hadnall with Kerry Dance 21-4. Meole won the aggregate comfortably as Eric Webb 21-5 led their list of eight winners.

POWBC 9 (222) Frankwell 5 (190)

These two teams are now level on points having swapped places in 3rd and 4th place after this result, although the Humpers have a game in hand. Best for POWBC on what was the ladies night Ann Parrish and Wendy Jones 21-9 and for Frankwell Brian Bennett 21-4.

The Social side maintained their top of the league position with this big home success, John Watkins in great form for them, 21 – 3, Karl Adams was best for the Church, 21 – 8.

Worthen and Brockton 3(173)  Wem USC 11(237)

A big away win for the United Services who had John Bushill leading the way, 21 – 5.  Phil Hamer was Worthen’s best, also at the start, 21 – 13.

Pontesbury B 14(252)  Monkmoor 0(95)

A full house for the Nag’s B side who had seven single-figure winners, Kevin Williams the best of these, 21 – 2.  Andy Cooke managed 16 for the Monk.

Bicton B 2(135)  Oxon 12(231)

A brilliant away performance from Oxon who are not out of the promotion stakes with three games in hand.  Best of six single-figure cards for them, Paul Williams, 21 – 2.  Pat Oliver was best of Bicton’s two winners, 21 – 7.

Corbet Arms 10(222)  Bagley 4(176)

Dave Hyde was best for the Arms side with 21 – 6 while Bagley’s best was Colin Clayton, 21 – 9.

A big away win for the Brick Bees who had Oliver Crane in sparkling form 21 – 5.  Best Severnsider was Eileen Farr, 21 – 17.
