Pontesbury A picked up a very useful nine points in Shrewsbury Division One from their trip to Battlefield A with Anthony Gray and Bo Challinor both winning 21-10. Second placed Old Shrewsbury B won their home tie against Bicton A 8-4 as the visitors battled hard for two 17 and two 19 winners. Prince Hotel overcame a strong performance from Meole Brace A, eventually winning 8-4 and by 11 chalks. Crescent were also pushed all the way by Castlefields B, winning by nine chalks and picking up eight points. Hanwood A had a more comfortable time of it with their 9-3 win over the Bricklayers A, with 30 being the final margin. Telepost A opened up their season with a big win against POWBC C, Will Roberts the only Humper to win (21-14), Dave Mansell 21-6 for the Posties.
In Division Two Oxon Village beat Battlefield B by 24 with Roger Lem winning 21-1. Unison, meanwhile, played Oxon and had Simon Reynolds winning 21-3. Paul Williams saved the whitewash with 21-16. St Julians opened up their season with an away win at Albert Road where their four winners helped do enough for the match points, six chalks being the difference.; Mark Parry giving them the best possible start 21-2. It was close up on the Hill where Bayston Hill beat the Prince Social 8-4 and by 12, Nick Hughes 21-5 for the hosts and Rob Ashley 21-9 for the visitors. The Brick B won 10-2 against Dorrington, Sean Lane best with 21-4. Meole Village shared the games with Greenfields Social but eased the aggregate by 23.
